Juju’s plans for new party show who his friends are Published: Friday, 2013/07/05 EXPELLED ANC Youth League president Julius Malema announced plans to start his own party two weeks ago . . . And two of his friends have already given him their full support. Clive Masweneng (32) and Samuel Mathole (37) spend their weekends recruiting young people to join the Economic Freedom Fighters party. Speaking to Daily Sun, the two men from Daveyton in Ekurhuleni said: “When we saw media reports about Malema’s new party, we jumped for joy.” Clive served as ANCYL chairman in Zenzele squatter camp in Daveyton from 2009 until 2010. He said: “We believe that we will have economic freedom in our lifetime if we are on his side. We are determined to recruit our peers in different provinces.” Samuel said they are confident that Malema’s support will grow. “All workers deserve to be protected by the government, whether they are in a union or not. This party will reduce victimisation by employers and help workers get help from the CCMA and labour department.” The two men have jobs so they do their political work over the weekend. Their target is to recruit 2000 people in their area. “A vote is a weapon and our government shouldn’t take each vote for granted because it could cause the downfall of a party,” Samuel said. When the People’s Paper spoke to Malema about these enthusiastic supporters, he said: “Send me their numbers and I’ll refer them to the Gauteng leadership. “Everyone is welcome to join the movement as long as they fully support the nationalisation of mines and returning to the masses what belongs to them. “When I have time, I’ll engage with them.” By: LESEGO MOLEFE Photo: Jan Right
