Julianne Moores Cannes Best Actress winning performance in David Cronenbergs Maps to the Stars looks like it wont even be able to compete for a best actress Oscar early next year; eOne, the films original Distributor has shifted the film to Focus World- a subdivision of Focus Features (Univerals indie label) and Focus World is looking to release the film via VOD and Streaming services in early 2015. No word on whether or not her hugely praised performance will be an Oscar contender, as the film has played Cannes, TIFF, NYFF, and was originally slated to open in limited release this weekend (Its hit theaters in the UK) now with a VOD only US release. This is a shame honestly, the film is currently holding a 63% Fresh rating on RT (up from the 53% Rating it had as of 9/02/2014) and looks to be a solid Sunset Boulevard-esque dark satire on Hollywood from not only the most controversial and challenging filmmaker currently working, but it reportedly boasts one of the best performances of Julianne Moores career. Rough. But heres a trailer to soothe the loss left by this new development. Either way Im still unbelievably excited to see this film.
