Juniors James Hackler, Connor Hill and Zach Schneider were recognized for being selected to attend Boys State this summer and Elizabeth Dunne for being selected to attend Girls State. Junior awards included the Clarkson Achievement Award to junior Joseph Hagen, the Clarkson Leadership Award to junior Joseph Buck, the Cornell Book Award to Jennifer DeRosa, the Elmira College Key Award to Bethany Alaniz and Daniel Stabile, and the LeMoyne College Heights Award to Phoebe Glowacki. For the National Technical Honor Society, recognition went to junior Bethany Arold for Early Childhood Education I and to junior Tyler Mack for Outdoor Power Equipment/Sport. Other junior awards included the RIT Computing Medal and Scholarship Program award to Andrew Newton, RIT Innovation’s Creativity Award to Maxwell Messie, the Sage Student Award to Kateryna Kochan and Jeanmarie Ryan, and the St. Lawrence scholarship/award to James Motyl, the St. Michael’s College Book Award to Elijah Goodell and Katherine Krebs. Three different University of Rochester awards went to juniors Makenzi Herbst, Maxwell Wulff and Brett Singler. The Wellesley Book Award went to junior Allison Lambdin and the Wells College Twenty-First Century Leadership Award to junior Margaret Lovier. The Bausch and Lomb Science Award went to John Teixeira, and the Rensselaer Medal went to Elizabeth Lane. As for the Class of 2014, Susan Bitter was recognized as a NMQST Commended Student, Colby Buell as a NMQST Finalist and Kiara Corcoran as a National Hispanic Recognition Scholar Program Award recipient. Scholarships for academic excellence from the New York State Education Department went to Susan Bitter, Kiara Corcoran, Sophie Hearn, Megan Molnar and Douglas Pinckney. Kiara Corcoran received the CNY Fertility Center Biological Sciences Scholarship. In addition, Sarah Tomlinson received the NYS Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association, Inc. award and Sepp Martin received the Key Bank Business Award. Each year, members of each department select a senior for their department’s Senior Distinction Award. This year’s awards went to: Nicholas Smolenski for art, Morel Malcolm for photography, Morgann Byrne for business, Douglas Pinckney for social studies, Douglas Pinckney for science, Kiara Corcoran for math, Patrick Biver for technology and Nicholas Smolenski for English. The Foreign Language Senior Distinction Award had a tie and was awarded to Susan Bitter and Jake Viscomi. Senior Distinction Awards in music went to Sophie Hearn, Ryan Terhune and Megan Molnar. The New York State School Music Association gave special recognition to the following juniors and seniors for participation at the state level: Phoebe Glowacki for women’s chorus, Joseph Hagen for symphony orchestra, Sophie Hearn as an alternate, Katherine Krebs for mixed chorus and Megan Molnar for symphony orchestra. Top students in the graduating Class of 2014 included valedictorian Sophie Hearn and salutatorian Kiara Corcoran. Others who wore cords for being in the top of a class included, in alphabetical order: Madeline Adams, Anna Barnett, Susan Bitter, Colby Buell, Kevin Goetzmann, Virginia Hamlin, Nicholas Hyland, Michael Jorgensen, Christopher Knupp, Megan Molnar, Matthew Payne, Harold Pinckney III, Bethany Regan, Benjamin Roney, Madison Singler, Taylor smith, Nicholas Smolenski, Casey Van Slyke and Jake Viscomi.
