July 10, 1930 - A fleet pair of heels and his lack of fear of revolver shots saved a local bootlegger from arrest this morning as Police Officer Casper Leding chased him down Astor street. Leding [saw the bootlegger coming out] of a doorway between Seventh and Eighth with a gallon keg under his arm. Leding chased him. The man dropped the keg and fled. Leding retrieved the keg but could not keep up with the fleeing man while burdened with the full whiskey barrel, so he fired two or three shots into the air. The bootlegger, however, ran all the harder, dodged into Sixth street, and disappeared into a building or an alleyway before Leding could reach the corner to see where he went. Leding brought the barrel back to police headquarters, however.
