July 10 Fungi Factoid (continued -- I posted by accident) Most people think "fungus" is an icky word. Reality -- fungi connect the physical world together like the internet connects us through cyberspace. Fungi can carry water miles to trees, hold soil together and build a nutritient base. Through symbiotic relationships they enable their relations in the plant kingdom to thrive. Decomposing fungi, such as shiitakes, turn dead trees and and plants into soil. MANY MUSHROOMS ARE ANTI-FUNGAL FOR HUMANS! Without mushrooms, where would fairies find shelter from hard rains?
