July 13 Do you know HIM? Do you go to a church expecting to hear a real fluffy encouraging message or do you want to hear a message that will challenge you to become a changed and better person? If there is one thing I have found in this Christian walk I’m on and that is I need to be challenged to look more like Jesus every day. I can remember my son and grandson saying how much they needed to hear a “fire and brimstone” message to keep them in line and on the right path. Just asking Him to come into our lives is really not enough. It is the beginning of an everlasting change that will take us from who we were to whom He wants us to be. Every word from the Lord is encouraging especially when it challenges us to be better. I look to the words spoken in church as something that will step on my toes today and cause me to get back on the straight and narrow path to God? I don’t ever want to be deceived to think I have arrived and do not need to be better. My standards are not of this world to compare myself to; therefore I always need to keep my eyes on Jesus. We need to look at our lives and decide to be a servant, to love the unlovable, to quit murmuring and complaining, to obey His commandments, and to ask Him for help to overcome a besetting sin in our life. Think about this the next time you go to church or read the Bible. Am I hearing the truth of the word of God that challenges me to be a better person? Have I decided to follow Jesus even when it’s hard to do? Do people know that I am a Christian because of what I stand up for in the world against sin? Do I just pick and choose the verses in the Bible to read that I think are good uplifting ones? This gospel is offensive to people because it always challenges them to change. If you are not ready to accept it then you will rebel against it with your life of disobedience. So let today be the day you allow the word of God to step on your toes and do a real heart change in your life. We must crucify our flesh daily and totally surrender our lives to Him in order to look and be like Him. And it is good! Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 5:24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
