July 13 ‘Please God, Don’t Let Me Forget’ How many times have we promised not to take our blessings for granted? But oftentimes, despite our best intentions, it takes a groundbreaking incident or, as in Louanne Payne’s case, a life-altering trip to Uganda, to make us appreciate the simpler things in life. “I was so happy to again be seeing my dear friend, Father Titus Ahabyona, and realizing a dream we had discussed for many years become a reality,” Payne told the Western Kentucky Catholic. “Everywhere we went…we were met by a hardworking people who were filled with joy, faithfulness, and immense pride…Why wasn’t I more joyful, faithful, and proud? Indeed, these Ugandans do not possess the amenities we take for granted in America, like working electricity or even the ability to celebrate Mass every week. Yet according to Payne, they still live their lives in undeniable joy. “I am thankful to God that my 16 days experiencing the beauty of the country, spirit and people of Uganda has changed my life forever,” Payne concludes. “I hope the changes last.” Happy are the people who…exult in Your name all day long, and extol Your righteousness.
