July 19, 2013 Deut 30:1- 16 Prosperity After Turning to the Lord God blesses the obedient and curses the disobedient. If we obey God and His commands with all our heart and all our soul, God is delighted. In His delight, He likes to bless people if He sees our hearts souled out for Him and His commands. God is just and He will bless us with so much more than we can imagine. In verse 3, says God will restore our fortunes and He will have compassion on us. *Compassion means sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. As Christians, we know how it feels to show compassion to others. Think about God having compassion on us if we are obedient to Him no matter how difficult our Christian life is. Isn’t it encouraging? Indeed. In verse 5, says He will make us more prosperous and numerous. *Numerous means great in number…during this time of the Israelites. It was said in the scriptures that if they obey Him, he would make them grow in numbers. That God will gather them from all the nations that they were scattered. How does this connect to us today? It’s simple; we will bear fruit/be fruitful if we are obedient to God. Isn’t this amazing. In verse 9, says there God will make us prosperous in all work of our hands, the fruit of the womb, young of livestock and crops of the land. When God is really delighted with our obedience, He will not just bless us. He will richly bless us. His blessings will be ten folds more than what we are expecting. Surely, God is just and He is very much willing to bless us with our requests and petition. But we have to ask ourselves first, How is our obedience to God? How is our walk with God? Sometimes, when God does not bless our request or petition we get disheartened or discourage. We take matters into our own hands. We started relying on our own strength. “Nagtatampo tayo kay God” because He did not bless us with the things we are asking for. It is easy for us to feel this towards God. But have we ever thought of God’s feelings when we are not obedient to Him? Think about this… Maybe God did not bless us with it because: 1. We have been disobedient to Him. 2. This is not according to His plans for us. (God has a more ambitious plan for us) 3. He wants you to wait. This is not the right time yet. The challenge here is found in verse 16 “For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to” In verse 11 and 14,” 11 Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach….14 No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it. God already made it easy for us to be obedient. He made His word readily available for all of us to follow and obey through the Bible. As Christians, we have NO EXCUSE not to follow and not to obey God. God will richly bless us if we are obedient to Him. Since we are under grace, sometimes even if we sin and we become disobedient to him or if sometimes we are weak, He still blesses us. Am sure we can all relate to this…something we don’t deserve and yet God still blessed us.
