July 30, 2013 Dear Parents/Guardians: We hope that you are enjoying your summer as much as our summer campers have been here at Kiddieland. This past month, our children have enjoyed field trips to Kohl Children’s Museum, the Chicago Public Library, and Shedd Aquarium. Our storyteller, Linda Gorham entertained the children with her interactive stories and the children loved meeting, petting, and holding the animals from the Buggy Whip Petting Zoo and Monkeys and More Exotic Animal Rescue. Please take advantage of the photos and videos of your children during summer camp activities that are posted on our Facebook page: Kiddieland ECE. We encourage you to share these memories with your friends, families, and co-workers. In July, some beautiful pieces of art were created by our children in the Artist Clay Club under Ms. Kepraios’ direction; and Ms. Orozco has everyone at Kiddieland speaking Spanish! In Chef and Kitchen, some delicious bread, cookies, and ice cream were made by our little chefs. New to Kiddieland this year is Stretch-N-Grow with Ms. Michelle Glick. Along with the exercise routines, Ms. Glick has emphasized healthy eating, muscle recognition, muscle strength, and the importance of drinking water and keeping hydrated. August proves to be a busy month with field trips to Wonderworks, Wagner Historical Farm, and the Exploratorium. Dave Herzog’s Marionettes and Cowboy Greg will be visiting us, and we will end camp with a Carnival Day on August 23. As we approach August and summer camp draws to an end, we wish to remind you to look closely at your calendars. Please note: • Dates and times of bus departures for all field trips • Kiddieland will close early on August 9th at 12:30 for Teacher’s Professional Development. • For our school-age children, please note the beginning of the school year at your child’s local public or parochial school • As we prepare to transition students from one classroom to the next, we need to verify enrollment. Kindly be sure to return the Kiddieland enrollment questionnaire as soon as possible if you have not done so already. • August 27, 28, & 29 are re-enrollment dates. We will have a sign-up sheet to meet with parents to review policies, tuition, and update all family information As previously announced, the building of our beautiful new eco-friendly park has begun. If you have not seen the artist’s rendition, please stop by the front office to view it. Our Parent Committee has begun an active role in fundraising for the purchase of some of the playground equipment; more information will be forthcoming as to how you can help. We ask all parents to play an active role in the Parent Committee for the benefit of your child’s education and growth. Please make every effort to attend the Parent Committee meetings to help Kiddieland achieve the goals and high expectations set forth by our director and staff. For the last month of summer camp, we are reconfiguring the composition of our classrooms. This is the first stage of the transition process prior to our September transition. Some children will be moved to new classrooms in the next week. Teachers and teacher assistants have already been assigned to their new classrooms and will make their transition on August 5. On or about August 19, letters will be sent to Kiddieland families with the new tuition schedule, rules and regulations, and the structure for the new enhanced program for fall. August 27, 28, & 29 have been designated as re-enrollment days. We are requiring parents/guardians to meet with the director and office manager to review new policies, update family information, and answer any questions regarding Kiddieland tuition, policies, or procedures. Please understand that this is a mandatory meeting that will benefit families as well as Kiddieland teachers and staff. We will meet in groups of ten and the meetings should take no longer than 45 minutes. All forms can be downloaded from our website: kiddielandece after August 20. Sign-up sheets will be available in your child’s classroom; re-enrollment times will be between 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Lastly it is with mixed emotions that we announce the departure of two of our teachers, Carmen Ortiz and Rachel Jefferson.
