July 30th started with a huge surprise - the chance to begin our next fertility cycle! Were doing IVF (in vitro fertilization)for the 2nd time. Itll consist of frequent sonograms, lab work, injections of LOTS of medication, and a minor surgical procedure. Our doctor has me on a regimen of hormones that will hopefully cause lots of growth of follicles that we hope will produce mature eggs. He will go in with a needle and remove them. An embryologist will inject one of Shanes sperm directly into each egg and incubate them. We hope they will fertilize and then our doctor will implant a few embryos back into my uterus. Then we wait and pray for a + pregnant test and 9 months later, we hope to meet our baby/babies. As exciting as this is and as long as weve waited, there are always doubts and fears that come... Are we ready, Did I do everything I could to give this the best chance of working? , What if {fill in the blank with a million other variables}... This time was no different, I spent most of the day on the verge of panic, crying on and off. I even went to acupuncture to try and balance myself. Everyone tells you not to worry about anything, just left it happen, but even the most relaxed person finds themselves obsessing in this case. An hour and a half after a body full of needles and meditation, and were off...
