July 4, 2013 Trusting shall lead to freedom Psalm 3:5 I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the LORD sustained me. How easy it is to take for granted the routine things of life. But here in the midst of the daily quest by others, including his son, to take David’s life, he sees the Lord and His protective care in his ability to sleep and to awaken the next morning. We just as David labor throughout the days to provide for ourselves and others, to protect ourselves and others, but yet at the end of the day we find that we need to rest or depart from our efforts. It is here in the departing from that which dominates our hours while awake, that we are freed from relying upon our own efforts to sustain and provide for us and others. For each night we quite unknowingly lay down either hoping for a good night’s sleep or fully expecting one. And without much or any thought we assume that as the day breaks or the alarm goes off we will be awakened to re-engage that which we departed from the day before. This form of freedom is certainly inclusive of what we celebrate today, for we are free to labor each day in that which we choose, and in the evening are able to trust, because of that freedom, that we will find it just as we left it when we slept the night before. CELEBRATE FREEDOM!!!
