July 5, 2013 “America… Bless God!” On July 4, 2013, we celebrate year number 237 since the enactment of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. This country has many shortcomings and has a dark side of its history that many citizens would rather forget. But, in spite of these negatives, I still believe it’s the greatest country in the world and I would not want to live anywhere else! I believe in the Christian ideals this country was founded upon. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are still the reason scores of people around the globe are risking life and limb to enter our shores. I believe God has blessed America in such a vast and abundant way that every citizen should thank Him every day for the privilege of being here. I also believe our President and government must return to the basic tenets that made this country great. Each citizen must pray for our leaders and government officials instead of verbally tearing them down. Each citizen must start with the people who live under their own roof and teach love for God, self respect, and consideration for others. Each citizen must reach out to help others who are “the least among us,” and seek to give a helping hand. It all starts with one family, one neighborhood, one community, one city, one state, and then the entire nation… YOURS! It’s easy to talk about the failures of government (and I believe our government is growing too intrusive and less concerned about the voted wish of the people), but I believe we must begin to speak things, not as they are… but as they should be. We must use our vote and our voice to bless this country… our country. People are always going around saying, “God Bless America” and that is a good place to start. But we as citizens must begin to speak blessings upon America! So… in my best Bernie Mac voice… I say to each of you… ‘Merica… Bless God!” Michael Gordon
