July 6th Reading: From Ernest Holmes WORDS THAT HEAL TODAY Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Jesus taught a definite law of cause and effect, that action and reaction are equal, that finally the universe responds to us by corresponding with our mental attitudes toward it.....If we view life from the standpoint that each is an evolving soul, destined to live forever somewhere, we shall see that in the long run life must return to us that which we reflect into it. In the long run only the merciful can obtain mercy. Hate will beget hate and love will give birth to that which is lovely. Joy will find joy and peace join with peace. There is an inward compensation to the soul even in temporary affairs. There is always an answering of the Spirit in the terms of our approach to It. This law of cause and effect obtains here, now, and through all eternity. Since we are eternal beings, we may as well start here and now. From Edwene Gaines The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity on forgiveness; Why should we forgive people who have done us wrong? After all, isnt there something satisfying about turning your back on someone who has behaved badly? Something powerful about cutting that person out of your life? Something comforting about knowing that he or she is really to blame for whats wrong with your life? The truth is that no matter how good these emotions feel in the moment they cannot and do not bring true or lasting happiness. Harboring a grudge completely blocks our ability to have peace of mind. All sorts of studies indicate that negative thoughts, feelings, words and behaviors affect our mental and physical health, our success, and our self-worth. An unwillingness to forgive is like stabbing ourselves with a knife and expecting the person who did us wrong to feel the pain. Forgiveness is not something we do for the sake of another person. Forgiveness is something we do for ourselves......Over and over Jesus stressed his most fundamental edicts- that we must love one another and that we must forgive one another.
