June 18, 2013 Tuesday After the mass at the crypt, we took our breakfast and we are heading to St. Mary Major Basilica and St John Lateran. We met to Filipinas who are also pilgrims from Vienna Austria. We will take the Metro accompanied by Fr. Erwin Balagapo from Tacloban who is taking doctorate in Canon Law. He is also the classmate of Fr. Aytoy Opiniano in College. St John Lateran Basilica is the former residence of the Pope until 15th century. But because of the Avignon Controversy. The Pope at that time was French and he decided to stay in Avignon France. And there were two Cardinals who wanted to take the throne of the pope. It was only St. Catherine of Siena who persuaded that the Pope should come back to Rome. But St John Lateran Basilica was destroyed and so St Peter Basilica became the residence of the Pope until now.
