June 27, 2013 Demolition of the Crown Jewel of the Civil rights - TopicsExpress

June 27, 2013 Demolition of the Crown Jewel of the Civil rights Movement : Section 4 of CRL SCOTUS carefully planned to gut Section 4 of the historic President Lyndon Johnson-led Voting Rights Law of 1965, a day before pandering to the Gay Rights activist group by striking down the Defense Of Marriage Act (DOMA). The John Roberts-led majority conservative activist Supreme Court - Justices Antonin Scalia, Anthony M. Kennedy, Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr. - deliberately decided to try to set the same liberal, left-leaning group one against the other by juxtaposing these two radical and explosive decisions. In the calculation of Roberts and his group, if they satisfy LBGT community, then the discussions around the demolition of the very foundation, nay, the heart and core of American Civil Right - the 1965 Voting Rights Law, will be muted and overtaken by the euphoria over the gutting of the Defense of Marriage Law. But nobody is fooled! The evisceration of the Voting Rights Act is a dream come true for White Supremacist groups, top 1% and billionaire donors, the Republican Party and the Republican-controlled States that through gerry-mandered districting and Voter-Suppression ID laws are intent on putting back the hands of the clock following the 2008 Election and the 2012 Re-election of the very first Black President Barack Obama. The demolition of the VR Law is what Justice Ginsberg in a Minority opinion calls "a landmark solution to an important problem in history" - inequality and denial of the privileges of full American citizenship. This dastardly demolition action by SCOTUS of removing the "Preclearance" clause is indeed a supreme "act of Hubris!" The degree “racial polarization in voting” rightfully demands the "Preclearance" clause. Justice Ruth Ginsberg, speaking for her group of dissenting liberal Judges - Justices Stephen G. Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan - compared the gutting of the heart of the VRL to "throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because you are not getting wet." Furthermore, she indicts the Conservative judges for erring "egregiously" by quoting a line from Martin Luther King, Jr., "The Arc of history is long but it bends towards Justice." This I believe for the struggle for full human rights and social Justice continues! It is now up to President Barack Obama to follow the footsteps of even a White President Johnson in righting this wrong. For some time now, I have believed it is about time President Obama makes a speech about racism, sets up a Commission on Race and a New Equal Voting Rights, and calls on the Spirit of Johnson and MLK, Jr. to move Congress. If the Democratic Party and its Liberal base are looking for motivation to mobilize their base, here is the demolition of Section 4 of the 1965 Voting Rights Law (VRL) is handed to them on Silver platter. The Democratic Party must mobilise its base and Independents to go out to there polls in 2014 and vote in the right Congress. Indeed, "The Arc of history is long but it bends towards Justice!"
