June 28, 1986 - 28 Years Ago Today: Bananarama debuted at No. 89 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their single, Venus. This dance version of the 1970 No. 1 hit originally recorded by Shocking Blue topped the Hot 100 chart for a second time on September 6, 1986. This was the fifth chart entry for the British girl group and their second hit following the 1984 Top Ten hit, Cruel Summer. Bananarama scored six additional singles to chart but only one to make the Top 40 and to crack the Top 5 which was I Heard A Rumour, which peaked at No. 4 in 1987. Bananarama have scored 14 singles on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart where Venus was their only No. 1 for two weeks.
