June 29, 2013 – Saturday I was searching in my Bible this morning and asking God to give me a “word.” I found an old, yellowed, piece of paper where I had written down a song God gave me at one of the lowest times of my life. It was sometime in the late 1980’s when God came to the rescue. I had been begging for, “JUST A CRUMB,” and God gently chastised me then pulled me to his shoulder and let me rest. It was the sweetest feeling. This morning, however, God sternly informed me that I had become content with the crumbs. God showed me a table that was spread before me and loaded with meats and breads of all kinds. There were fruits and vegetables that were served in beautiful bowls and platters. Flasks were sat beside goblets of gold and flowers and candelabras adorned the table. Jesus was standing at the head of the table, robed in brilliant white with his arms spread wide. With a beautiful smile upon his lips he said, “Come.” Immediately a throng of people came to the table. Some sat in chairs but most crawled under the table ready to snatch up the crumbs. With sorrow God said: There are no crumbs at my table. There’s only meat, and bread, new wine. Everything I’ve made is yours. Every tear you shed is mine. There are no humble little cabins. There are only mansions filled with gold. There’s no heartache, no pain, no sorrow. No one grows old. It is easier to sit at the table than it is to crawl under it. There is more on top of the table than there is under it. Why do we do that? Why do we go out of our way to settle for less? Do we feel that others are more deserving? Do we feel guilty for some reason? If my family came to dinner at my house and began to crawl under the table to eat after I had prepared a meal for them I would be hurt. God has more for us than we will accept. If we don’t take it, he will give it to someone else. If God wants to give me something then I want it all; not just a crumb. God says to us today-----COME AND DINE.
