June 29, 2014 Spencer-Lopez is a big target Ruben Meza AztecSportsReport Publisher During events throughout the summer, high school recruits usually try to find a way to stand out amongst their peers. Whether it be by wearing highlighter colored shorts, long sleeves or high socks or any other form of clothing/attire to catch a scouts eye, kids do whatever they can to be spotted on the field. Ruben Meza 2015 WR Isiah Spencer-Lopez. At team tournaments however, most recruits are limited to their high schools uniform, taking away any sort of advantage. This is when prospects such as Isiah Spencer-Lopez come in to play. Standing at a lean, 6-foot-5, 195-pounds, the Pasadena (Calif.) La Salle wide receiver is given a second look wherever he goes. It wasnt any different at San Diego States passing tournament earlier this month, too. Spencer-Lopez didnt look just like a big kid who decided to play football, though, hes a football player who happens to have a big body. He actually ran crisp routes and was a legitimate deep field threat in the La Salle offense, so its no surprise that schools have expressed interest in him. A lot of the Pac-12 and Mountain West schools have reached out like Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, USC and UCLA and schools like SDSU and Fresno State and San Jose State, Spencer-Lopez said. I dont have much junior film because I transferred so Im going to a lot of camps this summer to get noticed. He shouldnt have any problem with that. Spencer-Lopez previously attended powerhouse St. John Bosco high school before transferring over to La Salle. He finished his junior campaign earning 385 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on just 16 catches. Last year was good but Im getting a lot stronger and better, Ive gained nearly 15 pounds this offseason and it has helped a lot, he said. Ive been really working on my footwork, route running and getting off the press because Im kind of skinny for my size and I got to get off the press better at events like this. It has been paying off. Now Im just hoping to show these coaches I can play at the next level and that I have what it takes. Spencer-Lopez said he is an aspiring electrical engineer major.
