June 30, 2014 by jacobcoakley Announcing the Nominees for the 2014 Valley Theatre Awards! The Las Vegas Valley Theatre Awards will hold its inaugural awards show Monday July 14. The nominees are here! The Vegas Valley Theatre Awards, a new program for identifying and promoting the best of locally-produced Las Vegas theatre, has released the full-list of year-end Valley Awards nominees! The five shows nominated for Best Production are: Anton Chekhov’s Cherry Orchard of the Living Dead, from Table 8 Productions; Edmond, from Cockroach Theatre; Picnic, from Las Vegas Little Theatre; Red, from Poor Richard’s Players; and True West from Las Vegas Little Theatre. The cast and crew of these shows, along with two other Valley Recommended shows (Song Poems Wanted! The Musical, produced by Off-Strip Productions and Other Desert Cities, produced by Las Vegas Little Theatre) are nominated in 11 categories honoring the range of talent and skill that go into producing theatre. The inaugural Valley Theatre Awards show will take place Monday, July 14 at the Art Square Theatre and is open to the public. Tickets to the event are $10 and are available now at bit.ly/2014valleyawards. “Excitement over the Valley Awards has grown exponentially over the last six months,” said Jacob Coakley, founder of the Awards and executive director. “I’m happy to celebrate our inaugural season by honoring the fantastic work all these artists have done.” The Valley Awards are adjudicated by a group of theatre lovers and practitioners—but the Valley Awards show will also have one category where the winner is picked solely by the audience. The “Audience’s Choice” awards lets audiences pick their favorite show from the past year. Audience members can vote (once) for their favorite show online at bit.ly/2014audiencechoice. “We wanted to tip our hats to the great work that happened throughout the past season, and let the audiences voice their opinion as to the best show of the past year,” explained Coakley. In addition to giving out awards to excellence in theatre, the gala will also feature musical performances from some of the previous year’s musicals, as well as numbers from upcoming shows. And finally, the gala will also be the jumping off point for even bigger, more ambitious plans from the The Las Vegas Valley Theatre Awards, highlighting how it plans to help not just promote and honor theatre, but also build the infrastructure to help connect theatre companies, makers and audiences within Las Vegas and across the nation.
