June 6, 1944. TODAY IN THE PAST. The was the D-Day. The Battle of Normandy in France. This was the massive invasion by the Allied Forces and fought in the beaches of Normandy encroaching into Germany to meet up the Nazis. In command of the invasion was General Dwight D. Eisenhower, backed by President Theodore D. Roosevelt of the USA, and Prime Minister Winston Churchill of England. This was the biggest amphibuous military landing ever that crushed the Germans to their dismal defeat. The planning was superb sending confusion to the Germans as to where the allied forces would exactly land. They thought of Pas-de-Calais (pronounced pah-de-kalay), but they were misled and disoriented. There were 175,000 troops with 23,000 aircrafts that stormed the beaches of Normandy and liberated France from the Nazis. This was the beginning of the end of World War II, with the Allies as the victors. Adolf Hitler committed suicide when he witnessed the defeat of his realm- the Third Reich, so did Field Marshall, Erwin Rommel, his top dog sidekick. A movie titled, The Longest DAy in 1962, depicted the heroism of the Allied Forces led by John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, Robert Ryan, Sean Connery, Richard Beymer (Fresh from The West Side Story, who sang, Maria, and Theres a Place for Us), Eddie Albert, Sal Mineo, Richard Wagner, Richard Burton, and many more as there were 68 international actors in the cast. This is very significant because the Battle of Normandy was the biggest battle since the outbreak of war, four years earlier, that determined who would be the heroes. Was it the Germans, Italians and Japanese (the Axis forces) or the Allied Forces (US, England, USSR, France and others). Sus kung didto pa lang ko, ako jud mouna pagpusil ni Hitler ug ni Rommel. After that, luoy baja ang mga Germans. In all war movies after that, sus permi pildi ang Germans. Usa ray ako ganahan sa mga Germans, ang ilang uniform, snappy kaau.....pero dali mailad sa mga Kano....he he he (sa cine ra ha)...Maau ra ba mosinggit ug Achtung (Attention) ug Schnell, Schnell (Faster)... pero diay pildiro, hay kalaay....try watching, Guns of Navarone, Where Eagles Dare, Battle of Dunkirk, nindot ni sila, naa ko tape, gusto mo?..... he he he yaw oi ako ni collections....Bye!
