June 7 is the 48th anniversary of the 1965 Supreme Court ruling in Griswold v. Connecticut, which found that married couples have the right to contraception and strengthened the right to privacy that is the cornerstone of other advances for reproductive health, LGBT rights, etc. June is also the 53rd anniversary of oral contraceptives becoming available to American women. Literally, this month marks important milestones for advances in both medicine and the law that allowed women to decide whether and when to have children – which expanded opportunity for women in education, career, and other areas.
