June in Gaming May 30th, 2014 | Murfreesboro, Tennessee Every few months the staff at OLB takes a look at our current offering of events and games and we decide how to proceed and create our new game offerings for the next few months. This usually occurs between Magic: The Gathering prereleases since these tend to be our largest events and require careful planning to ensure continued successes. One of the major areas we were able to grow was Heroclix. Thanks to Danny and Zach we successfully hosted our first Realms Open Championship qualifier event (ROC). Expect many more larger Heroclix events in the future and with War of the Light just around the corner there’s never been a better time to start playing. Pokemon continues to run strong every week and starting in June will be moving to Saturday mornings from 10a-2p. By moving to Saturday mornings it allows us to schedule move events outside of traditional league battles. Expect more tournament style events to compliment our already popular league. No announcement would be complete without Magic. Beginning May 30th we are going back to a standard $5 constructed tournament and we’re putting 3 packs of current product or equivalent store credit into the prize pool for each entrant to be awarded to the top finishers. In addition we’re going to continue to offer drafts every Tuesday night at 6pm. If that’s not enough Magic for you then starting Thursday June 5th at 5pm we’ll restart our Commander league! This league will be open play from 5pm-8pm every Thursday and feature weekly prizes along with an end of season prize every month. In order to help create a more diverse environment we will be changing what earns you points every week. Here’s a look at whats coming up in June: Heroclix June 1st – Decades Game!!! – 500 points - Pick a decade and build a team using characters created only in that decade (i.e only characters from the 70′s can be used in a 70′s era team) No resources, items etc. unless that resource was created during that specific era. June 8th – X-Stravaganza!! – 600 points. With all the X based movies and sets of late build a X related theme team, any named theme as long a sit applies to the X universe (Weapon X, X Men, X force etc.) Only X related Resources. June 15th – Marvel Vs. DC – 400 points. Build a Marvel and a DC team, you and your opponent will roll off to decide who play which team, lets see who is the best publisher!!! June 22nd- Nothin Beats the Classics! – 600 points – Make a team using only the classic line up of an original team (Justice League, X Men, X force, ) no resources June 29th – War of the Light Month 1 – $20 Entry – Only 20 participants will be admitted to this event, it will run the same as Fear Itself did, Pre registration is necessary in the wizkids event system HERE as the first 20 registered have the first spots to the event. Other will be permitted on a list basis day of. Magic June 3rd – JOU-BNG-THS draft – 6pm $15June 5th – Commander League – 5pm – FREE June 6th – FNM Conspiracy Draft – 6:30pm $12 June 7th – Conspiracy Launch celebration – 12pm – $10 Drafts every time 8 players sign up. June 10th – JOU-BNG-THS draft – 6pm $15 June 12th – Commander League – 5pm – FREE June 13th – FNM Standard – 6:30pm $5 June 17th – JOU-BNG-THS draft – 6pm $15 June 19th – Commander League – 5pm – FREE June 20th – FNM Standard – 6:30pm $5 June 24th – JOU-BNG-THS draft – 6pm $15 June 26th – Commander League – 5pm – FREE June 27th – FNM Standard – 6:30pm $5
