Jungle justice Nig style. Unsurprising ... weve always had this attitude to public enemies, like thieves etc - & given that the populace are completely fed up & distrustful of our security forces, what else cd one expect? Old habits die hard. I only hope the mob retrieved their phones safely & sensibly, for security investigation? Re: the resentful comment of so-called Xtians by the writer: Well, its not easy to wash away the past injustice of 40 years, previously twds Xtians exclusively... before this Boko Haram insurgency included all and any Nigerian, regardless of their religious faith. Justice must not only be done - it must be SEEN to be done! Not enough hi-profile Northern Nigerians - like the late blessed Emir of Kano Ado Bayero (RIP) who was a great saviour of Xtians & Southerners during many crises- speak up & DO something ... the kind efforts of ordinary, loving & courageous Northerners to protect & assist Xtians in those incidents, go unnoticed. Thus, the (untrue) impression of inhospitality remains in the minds of the majority of ignorant populace If we are to heal our wounds, we must ACCEPT our past & reconcile with it, rather than seek to use a recent trend as an excuse to wipe it away. As for the preset trend .... mass killing of Moslems as well as Xtians only started by Boko Haram recently, with Xtians, schools & churches still the majority in number of casualties - tho that does not justify or exonerate the murder of our brothers & sisters in lslam - not AT ALL. But truth is bitter & it is time for us to see ourselves as NIGERIANS & refrain from promoting further religious division Let us face the facts of injustice & sympathise with our opposite numbers - Nigerians of different faith To me, the greatest injustice is the one we do to ourselves, by allowing sentiment to overrule reason & thereby perpetuate our divisions. It is not easy to wash away the sins of the past - but the South Africans, Vietnamese, Russians, Polish, South Koreans, Chinese & former Yugoslavians (now Bosnia, Croatia & Serbia) DID IT... It is high time we started our own Truth & Reconciliation. So when are we Nigerians going to make the effort instead of listening to distrustful voices & politicians who divide us? And meanwhile .. the corrupt leaders continue to celebrate .. & plan exclusively for 2015..
