Just Dandy Dandelions came here with the early colonists. They - TopicsExpress

Just Dandy Dandelions came here with the early colonists. They loved dandelions. Me? Not so much. Dandelions are naturalized and most of them, about a million, are breeding in my yard. These perennials grow in most soils, propagating like bunnies. I wish I had a taste for them. Young leaves may be eaten in salad, older, bitter leaves may be boiled as greens, the flowers are eaten raw, the dried roots can be ground as coffee substitute, and wine can be distilled, too. If I had a use for my nutritious dandelions, maybe I would gleefully harvest them instead of grumbling as I am trying to be rid of them. World wide, many people eat them, and maybe you do, too. If you do, and you run out, come on over, I have a yard full. If a weed is just a plant in the wrong place, then what about a million of them in the wrong place? If a million dandelions insist on living in our lawns, then maybe it is our perspective that needs adjusting. It is not easy to accept that idea. I keep at the foolish task of trying to be rid of them, but I fail. Changing my view of dandelions seems harder to do than actually trying to be free of them. Lets Pray: Dear God, as we struggle with ideas, or objects, or people whom we see as weeds in our gardens, give us the vision to understand their value, to grasp their uses, and see their beauty. Amen. Heres a Thought: Is it wrong to be a realist? youtu.be/twvUK6IK6BI
