Just Had the most wonderful week of my life with the people I love - TopicsExpress

Just Had the most wonderful week of my life with the people I love most. My beautiful fiancee and adorable daughter drove up to the Home of Baseball for the biggest Little League Tourney of the year. My Dad , who gave me the love of the game, came up a few days after. We stayed at a house straight out of Field of Dreams. Corn across the street, well water, etc... 85 during the day, 55 at night. It was so amazing, I didnt even mind the mosquitos and flying gnats that interrupted our nightly card games. (Thats big if you know me). Alee made trades that netted her 14 pins when she started with one. It was fun to see her pick up pins each day and hear about the great deals she made as well as laugh at the times she got fleeced. It was the weekend of Neil Diamond. For whatever reason, cracklin Rosie started the house on a Neil Diamond soundtrack that never ended. Mr. Warmbein was great company and Alee got a kick out of him and wanted me to ask if he could move in with us in PGH. I Never really thought or cared about the results of the games. I just wanted to see Joey enjoy the moment of living in that park and experiencing the atmosphere. He helped lead his team to the 9PM championship where they defeated a team from North Carolina 13-1. I had a long drive home last night with the girls fast asleep and Dad and Joey still in Cooperstown (where they will attend induction weekend) - and I got to think of all the things he has done as a Little Leaguer. I really hope he appreciates what he has done and learned alot along the way. He is many things with some incredible talents and strengths, but like any player not named Willie Mays, he has his share of weaknesses too- But the adjective that stands out to me most to describe Joey is winner. He is not the fastest, doesnt have the most power, cant throw the hardest or get rid of the ball the quickest. But he wins. His teams win...... Alot. He has a knack for doing things to help his teammates win when they need it most- and he is steady on the nights when it is someone elses turn to shine. So I am not surprised that in the last game hell ever play as a Little LEaguer- He walked away a winner with his teammates in the biggest tournament, on the prettiest field with the biggest stage: 4000 people watching in the stands and 15,000 watching online. I am proud of all that. But most of all, I am proud how he does it. He does it with a smile and respect for teammates, opponents, umpires and the game. He enjoyed himself this weekend- and experienced cooperstown as any kid should- for the fun and love of the game. The winning is just something that happened. A Very proud father I am. Ill be talking about this week for the rest of my life....with Neil Diamond in my head :-) Congrats Joey P!
