{Just a curiosity to know for the Pub Quizz} The outgoing president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, is to retire this week with a taxpayer-funded pension worth £102,000 a year. He is also entitled to a life subsidy as a former MP and prime minister, around £2,400 a month, and a transitional allowance of hundreds of thousands for the next three years. This comes just days after he said David Cameron had previously agreed to rules which dictate the UK will have to pay an extra £1.7bn surcharge to the SU.
