Just a few words about one of Stavanger´s most important foodies: Jan Ekornes. I met Jan years ago, and in a period of a few years was his nearest (work) neighbor at Breitorget (and yes, I have some great Jan stories). Jan Ekornes passed away a few days ago and his funeral is tomorrow. I am in the US right now and wish I could have attended the funeral of the man who put gourmet dining on the map in Stavanger. I am shocked that our two (obviously, but not surprisingly sleeping) newspapers, Stavanger Aftenblad and Rogalands Avis, have, as far as I can see, written not a word about the man, but I know there are legions of people in the Stavanger area who know Jan as a great restaurateur, a seafood fanatic and just a really great guy. I want to send scallops and halibut-laced good vibes to his family. Jan will be sorely missed. Raise your glasses one and all to a Stavanger legend! Levende torsk i skiver kan du pinadø si!
