Just a quick rant and I will be finished/happy. When I - TopicsExpress

Just a quick rant and I will be finished/happy. When I interviewed for my current job, it was 3 weeks from interview until starting date. I resigned from my old job, found a house to rent and moved the entire family during that time period. The house we rented is in a nice neighborhood, but the previous tenants did not give any form of damn about the yard. The only thing growing was weeds and most of them were dead. However, the entire yard was mostly hard dirt. When we settled, I started to water the yard, but the sprinkler system did not work. It took a month to get it fixed, so I continually moved the oscillating sprinklers around. With guidance from a professional, I have grass ALL over the entire yard. San Augustine is around the edges and house, because the sun did not kill it, the rest is Bermuda and weeds. With the proper watering and care, I have the Bermuda growing, seeding and has choked -out the weeds. The San Augustine is growing and running and choking-out the Bermuda. GREAT! I let it get just tall enough for the Bermuda to seed and I mow it. That’s about every 10 days. WELL, I get a letter in the mail from the City of College Station basically telling me to mow my yard! Grass/weeds are not allowed to be over 12” tall. Mine isn’t. I look around and see many yards that have taller grass. This means someone called them. Hmmmm. We have lived here since July 9 and none of them have even bothered to come and meet us, so why call about our grass? I also find it strange that the City of College Station would rather have bare ground and dead weeds than grass that MIGHT be considered too tall. (The letter said blah, blah, blah, beautification of the City, etc, etc, etc.). Also, my water bill went from $22 to $28 to $181. So, I would think that my tall grass was even making them money and they would be happy. Anyway, this isn’t about the City of College Station, because I do love it and love living here. I’m just wondering which one of my non-friendly, lazy-@ss neighbors wanted to call and complain that my dirt farm now has grass cluttering it all up! That is all.
