Just a quick update. We are still staying with my parents, and will continue to until Im ready - physically - to be able to take care of my sweet boys. That means that we could very-well be here and away from home for quite some time. We have enrolled Markus in Windom for at least the beginning of the school year. With the complications with the infection, I continue to be unable to pick Lukus up. Hes close to, if not over, 16 lbs. now which is twice the weight Im allowed to lift until the wound is completely healed. With the rate its going, that may not be until my next operation. Ive been told that it doesnt really matter at this point if it heals up, they would proceed as they will enter the same incision as the last operation. Just wanted to give a shout out to my amazing, selfless and supportive parents, Dennis Esplan and Laura Esplan; and my sister Kari Esplan for all that they have done for us. Taking us in, taking care of the three of us, driving me to Rochester 2-3 times per month, the list goes on. While its hard to be away from Nate, hes been making the drive over just about every weekend. Lots of drive time, very quick trips. I cant wait for everything to get wrapped up so I can get home again! Im also amazed by the outpouring of support weve gotten. Im confident the next phase, where they will create my internal pouch, will go more smoothly this time around because of all the positive energy being sent our way. They are doing some further testing next week as there may be some prolapsing of some other organs. They decided that because the work they are doing with my jpouch creation and how delicate it is, theyd rather fix things all at once than risk letting someone else poke around in there and potentially damage the pouch later on. It make sense, but its already a very difficult recovery on its own. I just hope that it doesnt make the recovery terribly uncomfortable. Im just so thankful for the amazing medical team I have working on me. For anyone who knows anyone with any sort of IBD, I HIGHLY recommend Mayo - after all, they are number one in the nation for a reason! Thats it for now. My next surgery is scheduled for Sept. 9 - I will try to post additional updates as I have them.
