Just a quick update for the Spartan Training Center. We have been changing our direction of focus over the past few months. Some of this change has been by choice, and some has been due to unforeseen circumstances. In the former category, we have changed the name, focus, and some training aspects of CTAP (Combat Training for the Armed Professional) training course to our new Exemplar training program. At first glance the mechanics of the training looks similar to the old CTAP course syllabus, but the emphasis, rather than being on the technical side of training, is now on what we’re calling the three C’s: Consciousness, Character, and Capability. The root physical portion of the training is still BattleHand, but more and more we’re using it to exercise mental and character traits that we want to bring out in a leader-and-protector in the modern society where he/she is needed most. Over the past few months we have run several of the new Exemplar Initium course with very favorable results. As we get time, we will be posting images and commentary on the training. In the meantime, for more information on the Exemplar approach, please check out our Exemplar Facebook page, simply search for Exemplar LLC. In the “unforeseen circumstances” category, for the time being we have had to suspend the daily workouts for local members at the Spartan Training Center. Long story short, during the second week of February, I was diagnosed with colon cancer. Being something of an emergency, surgery was necessary, but I am now in the process of recovery and preparation for further therapies. It will be a long process, but I fully expect to get back to full health. In that regard, I have to thank numerous wounded and injured Marines and other service people with whom we have had the privilege to work. These individuals, with grace, dignity, and courage have faced and are facing far greater challenges than I. With such individuals as role models and setting such high standards, I feel that at the very least I can try to follow the examples they set.
