Just a reminder: when youre going to adopt an animal, no matter where its from, make sure youre prepared. Youll need food, grooming items (clippers, shampoo, any medical things the shelter/rescue may suggest, etc.), a kennel or crate for their bed, collar and leash (appropriate thickness in case you get a big dog or a strong one) and appropriate plans and equipment for when youre animal will be left home alone. Be prepared to potty train. Be prepared for a few mishaps. Be prepared for a slow process for you and your companion until everyone adjusts. Dont just give up after an accident or two. A dog will only shine in its best environment. If its a runner (like mine was) you need to train it or not give it a chance to run. That would be the type of dog you dont open the door for and say, go potty and leave it unsupervised or without a leash or tie out. Theres so many different methods and techniques for an animal. And theres so many dogs that dont get that chance to shine for you. Do YOUR part before you give up........give them a home, and give them a chance. ---Summer Animal Control Officer
