Just a thought before it slips my mind again: We look at - TopicsExpress

Just a thought before it slips my mind again: We look at boxing and we cheer each and every punch, each and every knock out. We even call the boxer the pambasang kamao and we elect him in congress. On the other hand we look at hazing and we despise the act. In Both of these situations there is some level of consent. The only thing different is that boxers train for months prior to the event, and also in boxing, there are rules (sponsors and people earning money and fame). So the questions becomes, if a consenting 20 year old who physically and mentally trained chose to be hazed, and if we put medical practitioners in the hazing rights to check on the well being of the neophyte, are we going to legalize hazing as well? Are we going to bet if he can finish the rights? We do not prosecute boxers for knocking out each other, even permanently wounding each other, but we do so in hazing. It is a strange world we live in isnt it?
