Just a thought for the week…. Hardly a day goes by that we don’t hear about a case before the Supreme Court or a decision by the Supreme Court or an appeal to the Supreme Court. As a law abiding citizen I tolerate many of the decisions of the Supreme Court even though I may not like them. I believe many of them are more reflective of humanistic even hedonistic values than they are of spiritual values. The term Supreme Court is actually a misnomer. It’s unsuitable because, well, it actually isn’t the Supreme Court. That designation belongs to Yahweh, Jehovah, the great I Am. He will judge everyone and everyone shall give an account of their lives before his judgment seat. He will not rule with political correctness in mind. He will not judge based on how wealthy or well connected someone may be in this life. The only connection that counts is whether or not one is connected to Christ. His judgments will be final, he will not make any mistakes and there will be no appeal process. God has warned us repeatedly in his word about the results of tolerating immoral behavior with statements such as, “For lack of guidance a nation falls.” (Proverbs 11:14a); “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34); “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.” (Isaiah 5:20a) The next time you hear about the power of the Supreme Court or the way the Supreme Court has shaped our history just remember that they do not have the final word in all things moral and right. Calling a pig’s tail a leg doesn’t make it ham. The final arbiter of what’s good and what’s evil is reserved for the Creator and the Supreme Court shall stand before him too and give an account of their decisions. I shudder to think how he is going to rule against judges who have codified immoral behavior. Sanctioning what God has deemed unacceptable behavior may make it law but it doesn’t make it right. Just a thought….
