Just a thought reflecting on Matt Walshs response to criticism of his article on suicide: earnestness is not enough to merit a place in a discussion. I have no doubt that Walsh gave his opinions earnestly. The problem is that his opinions are bad. He mentions the spiritual aspect of depression. So then, just because a disease affects the mind, it is spiritual? Or are all diseases spiritual? Assuming free will even exists, take the common analogy of driving a car: good discernment tells you to dodge obstacles and be safe. What happens when your steering wheel locks? Should you have just been a better driver when you hit a wall?
