Just a wee bit of shameless self-promotion, if youll be so kind as to indulge me: I am quite excited (not to mention honored, humbled) to relate that a short novella of mine has been included in a multi-author volume released on Ex Occidente Press / Zagava Books, which is due to begin shipping in mid-July. The title of the book is Infra-Noir, my piece is called The Salamander Angel. I am a fan of every single one of the authors with which I share space in this magnificent book. There is not a single one among them whose work I havent spent a considerable amount of time and resources tracking down (small press editions go out of print very quickly). They are among the chief torch-bearers of a particular literature which I consider to be absolutely vital. I could not have hoped to have been published by a better press than Ex Occidente. Many people have been repeatedly regaled by my enthusiasm for this press over the last year or so. Located in Bucharest, Romania, the press has released some of the most beautiful editions I have ever laid eyes (and hands) on. They constitute the jewel in the crown of small literary presses. I am a genuine enthusiast. Infra-Noir can be pre-ordered here in two editions: zagava.de/ My heartfelt thanks goes out to Dan and Jonas, who have conspired to release this book, and to the cognoscente who resides on the border of Beijing and Berlin, whos critical eye (among other things) has proved invaluable to me. As for my own story, here is an unofficial synopsis: The Salamander Angel traces the echoes of the worship of an ancient Gnostic deity through the subtle and invisible topography of a modern city. Angelic intrigues reverberate along the axis spanning heaven and earth. Geomantic revelations course unseen through dark infernal mansions. The city reveals her secrets only to those who are clever or curious enough to trespass her forbidden regions. By poetic inquiry, by strategic transgression, by cartographic divination and by other inscrutable means is the hidden architecture of the celestial temple unveiled. Within the subtle heart of an abandoned church, in a lavishly decorated apartment in which a ceremonial invocation is performed, atop the roofs and in the bowels of a dilapidated industrial complex, we are shown the traces of a shifting of the offices of stellar influence. Nothing has been proven, nothing can be verified, yet there would seem to be a convocation among the emissaries of certain houses of which little has been spoken. The one thing of which we can be certain is this: there will be trouble of every sort before the story has run its course.
