Just an FYI for those who are fb acquaintances that have never met me and have decided to judge me based on one fb post, heres a little dose of reality... I am NOT, nor have I ever been a city person. The closest thing Ive been to a city dweller was a couple months in an aprtment in a town with a population of about 700 people at the time. Ive always lived in the country and have always had critters of one kind or another. I have responsibly had animals euthanized by a vet when it was necessary due to end suffering. I have also had to dispatch other animals myself because if severe pain and/or suffering. I dont hunt for several reasons, including the money needed to fund an armory (for the grizzly adams feller that insists you need a different gun for every day of the week), the multiple layers of blaze or camo (depending on the season) and the time factor involved in sitting in the woods, etc. I dont have a single thing against hunting to put meat on the table and to provide for your family. I get it COMPLETELY. I am not a vegan or a health food freak, but like to have an idea of what Im ingesting. I still drink Dew even though I know whats in it isnt good for me, which is why I have cut back on it. I still smoke as well, but have cut back a LOT on that as well. The fact that Id rather not have round up sprayed on what I eat doesnt make someone a freak. In spite of the fact that I am allergic to cats, I have trapped and hauled cats in my vehicle to be spayed and neutered. I have found homes for the strays/ferals that have showed up here and had the rest fixed (or broken, depending on how you look at it). I have also shot cats that had been hit on the road and severely injurred but not killed. I didnt do it for kicks, but because it was necessary and the responsible thing to do. I have paid for and taken hay for people to feed their horses and have dropped off random round bales after dark at a farm that had some VERY thin cows. I have brought other peoples horses to my house to feed and care for them, paid for vetting, etc.. I have donated clothing, home supplies, health/beauty items, blankets, winter coats, gloves and food to shelters and other organizations. I have done these things NOT because I am rich in dollars, but because I have compassion and I know how it feels to be without. I can empathize with someone who is overwhelmed. Ive worked sometimes 3 jobs to make ends meet and Ive also had some very good times. I am grateful for everything I have and have realized if all the stuff were to disappear, Id be okay as long as the living beings (human and animal alike) were alright. Ive been called a bleeding heart liberal because I have compassion and am willing to help people who are putting forth effort in their lives but need a little boost, advice or an alternative solution. Do I believe people should be handed everything? No. Do I believe some people deserve what they get? Sometimes. Do I believe things can change? Yes. Do I believe in paying forward? Yup! Do I believe everything I read on the internet? Nope. Do I take people at their word? Once their actions have proven to me that I can, yes. Do I believe some people are just assholes that think they know everything? Most definitely, and telling me to go back to the city because when asked for alternatives I offered one just proves it jackass. There, rant over, and on with my day and helping out where I can! :D
