Just another dude trying to sell his wellness workshops & retreats and such to the worried well. chanchalcabrera/ earthopensource.org/.../agricultural... The marketing of these things is genius, scare the general public with big fancy words, and steer them to your organic, non gmo foods, and collect the premium..... He uses the typical argument from ignorance, saying that there have not been enough studies, we just dont know, and raising specters like rogue proteins. Unfortunately he doesnt know that we can detect such things, that there is no evidence for such things, and if there is a problem it would have been detected. But to the journalist seeking an honest other side, his words carry great weight. Now there is a controversy, where there really isnt. Even the subtitle screams of false equivalence. It says, The debate on genetically modified foods remains unresolved as scientists squabble about evidence. Wow. I can completely understand how shed come to that conclusion, but it just isnt true. When you read the article it is the typical science against fear. Martina and I state facts. Vrain retreats to fear, with conjured evils of rogue proteins a problem no more likely in GM foods than traditional breeding. He cites GMO Myths and Truths, an activist rag that stood no peer review. The authors are the same old, same old- the same old cohort that cranks out the misinformation on a regular basis. It is disappointing that he has lost his science filter. (Sidebar: GMO Myths and Truths has been debunked point-by-point, I just need to finish the references) Heres the problem. To the reader there are voices of two scientists speaking from science, and an anti-GM activist speaking like there is some science to the anti side. This plays right into the hands of the fear mongers that need to just raise a shadow of a doubt. It is a major tragedy because Ms. Ferguson was just being complete and representing both sides. Unfortunately there are not two sides on this issue. There is one side, science. Period. But now the readers of her magazine will get the impression that this technology is harmful, that Martina and I are defending something horrible, and fortify the position that people should not eat GM foods. reference: kfolta.blogspot.ca/2014/01/false-equivalence-raises-its-ugly-head.html
