Just as people keep asking... Neuroblastoma is a rare cancer - TopicsExpress

Just as people keep asking... Neuroblastoma is a rare cancer that affects young children. Less than 100 children are diagnosed with neuroblastoma each year and around 50 of those children, like Kian, are diagnosed with high risk neuroblastoma. This is an aggressive form of cancer that rapidly takes over the body. It usually starts in an adrenal gland above the kidney and quickly spreads to the bones, bone marrow, liver and skin. Kians started with a tumour above his left kidney which then spread to his pelvis and is now all over his bones from his temple down to his legs and in his bone marrow. His tiredness, temperatures and reluctance to walk worried Kat and Sam for several weeks. After countless visits to the doctors and A&E, they were finally given the terrible news that no parent should have to hear. Kian has been given a 50/50 chance of survival and informed that theres 80% chance of a relapse if his treatment is successful. His fight starts now and will last around 18-24 months, including chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy and immunotherapy. No child should ever have to go through this amount of suffering. Life can be so cruel! Lots of love for Kian xxxxx
