Just back from a relaxing weekend in the country - my homeland, the land of my childhood. I was delighted to meet and fall in love with the newest baby in our family - my newest great niece, Belle. Then went for a great lunch at the Wandering Ridge Winery which is situated on the top corner of what was our family farm. Walking on the familiar earth triggered the memory bank to open and I have marinated all day in memories like chasing sheep, building cubbies in the bush and the sheep yards, riding beat up hand-me-down bikes, blocking up streams, frosty mornings, feeding pet lambs, bush barbies, collecting mushrooms in May and of so many family celebrations. It was fabulous to see the green rolling hills, puddles everywhere and the endless paddocks of recently seeded chocolate earth. I wish every farmer in Australia could have the same start to the season as WA farmers have had. Let those who have been lucky, be grateful.
