Just back from the most wonderful Mass in the Metropolitan Cathedral, Liverpool. It was a real privilege to be present at this Mass of Installation of the Most Reverend Malcolm McMahon. Bishop Tom Williams greeted the Archbishop Elect at the Cathedral entrance and an Apostolic letter was read from the Papal Nuncio, giving Papal authority, which was required. The music was awe inspiring and the singing from the Cathedral Choir was truly Angelic. Their were many Bishops from England and Wales in attendance and Cardinal Vin Nichols and a Cardinal from Los Angeles were also there. In his homily the new Archbishop prayed for the 96 Hillsborough victims and he paid tribute to the families for their dignity in their search for Justice. He threw in a few ad libs and gave us a smile. He also paid tribute to the previous Archbishop Patrick Kelly, which brought rapturous applause from the congregation. The Lord Mayor, Gary Miller represented the City, and there were many other dignitaries present. All in all a fantastic new beginning for our new Archbishop.
