Just back from the wedding of Brian Selznick and David Serlin, held at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria. I am not good at fashion notes, but Brian wore what looked to me, from the fifteenth row of the auditorium, like a hand-painted tux, a combination of Peter Max and Italianate, rococo page border design. David was in Gatorade Blue. There were 32 pots of chrysanthemums on the stage in a kind of grid pattern, and its hard to upstage mums, but these gentlemen managed. The service began with a four minute film sequence, 25 feet high, of Barbra Streisand brandishing her wedding ring over the back of a settee and launching into Sadie, Sadie, Married Lady, from FUNNY GIRL. But it wasnt all trippy. The vows included a promise to avoid self-laceration: I promise not to hate the person that you are marrying. Now theres a marital exercise.
