Just back home now and got the news about Robin Williams passing. I am shocked and saddened by the news. He lives nearby and I have met him many times over the years performing and rehearsing his routine at a local club. He made us laugh and now unfortunately he made us cry. I would like to share a great story about him that I will always remember and keep his memory on a high note.... I was playing with my band back in the early 90s, at the club next to the Holy City Zoo, where Robin got his start. He was starting to get very famous and came by to sit in there. After his set he stopped by our gig (at the Last Day Saloon) where we were playing with a guest singer-Frankie Ervin, a great older blues and r&b shouter. Robin hopped on the stage and started to do his Blind Boy Tiburon routine acting like a white blues singer from his rich hometown of Tiburon. Frankie, the singer had no idea who this guy was and started to get real mad and was ready to haul off and belt him. We took him aside and told him that it was the famous comedian-Robin Williams. We all had a great laugh and glad that Robin decided to be a comedian and not a musician. I will never forget him....RIP to a great soul.
