Just because Im in the mood to blab about trivial stuff. My handsome young man brings these in all the time. He messed this one up a good number. As you can see the head of the lizard is in his mouth, that left a rather large wound on the back of his neck. Tips from self experience: 1) When your cat brings in a live animal, do not pry your cats mouth open to get the animal out. Territorial instinct will drive the cat to clench their jaws tighter possibly causing further injury to the animal. Just wait for your cat to let the animal out of its mouth to play with it, then be swift in your moves to take the animal away. This is of course if you have intentions to save the animal without the hands of professionals. If its a poisonous animal (which my cats have never brought in poisonous animals) I have no advice for you there, thats a bit of a sticky situation. 2) Do not shame your cat for bringing animals in. On the contrary, praise them if you want. Putting aside the debatable theory that cats have telepathy with their main goal being world domination, whether you praise them, scold them, or neither, it will most likely make no difference in them continuing to bring in their catch of the day. Cats do not understand reasoning (theoretically speaking). So with saying that, instead of injecting them with negativity, either leave them alone after or give them a good boy/gal and a good petting. These are just thoughts from my experience. I know every situation is different. My thoughts are not rules, just guidelines. One last tip: hearing from multiple resources, neosporin (which is all I had on hand for this occasion) is okay to put on lizards AS LONG as it doesnt have any pain killer in it. Apparently painkiller in neosporin can cause illness or death in lizards. Im sure that information varies, like I said, just guidelines. This lizard seemed like it will be fine. If not, oh well, circle of life and all that. It was no trouble to me trying to lend a caring hand. My cats are well fed, they do not need to kill with their own hands to eat. So worst case scenario, food for the crows.
