Just because an interpretation is not a fact, doesnt mean - TopicsExpress

Just because an interpretation is not a fact, doesnt mean interpretations arent based on facts. This is how we are able to evaluate the strength of any given interpretation, ie, in respect of how accurately it accords with relevant facts. Dialogue can only happen if both parties agree there is an objective reality against which their positions can be judged, and further agree to actually consult that objective reality in order to either concede one point to the other, or enable some kind of mystical compromise (which is apparently what recognition and appreciation of nuance amounts to these day). Anyone who wishes to deny an objective reality, or who accepts facts to which only they are miraculously privy, would be advised to simply admit theyre more interested in their own ideas than in authentic aspirations toward truth, in which case an empty room will serve much better than a conversation partner.
