Just because it is called a “memorial park” does not mean you can pitch a tent, or spread the picnic blanket, or haul the whole brood off for a day of kite flying. The cemetery is no place for little kids. It’s just too crowded, and vast, and frenzied (unless you own one of those mausoleums). But try telling that to the thousands of Filipino families who view the occasion as some sort of yuletide pre-party, replete with pancit, sleeping bags, and mini-stoves. God knows the police already did, and the Philippine Red Cross, and even cemetery administrators… to no avail.
