“Just because something isn’t a lie does not mean that it isn’t deceptive. A liar knows that he is a liar, but one who speaks mere portions of truth in order to deceive is a craftsman of destruction.” ― Criss Jami Let’s start this article through this beautiful quote of Criss Jami and this hugely applies on today’s Main Stream media. Media is the most beautiful essence of human life. Media affect our modern life in nearly every way, with a flip of newspaper and tuning of news channel we can get the potential picture of our society and reflection of the country too. The main work of media is to inform the people. This relates to our form of government: In a democracy the “demos” should know what goes on in the world as it is the one, that decides. A modern democracy cannot work without the media which are an agent between public and state. The saddest part is that media is having their economy factors too and that led them to the world of TRP’S and etc. Every Media channel want to make big money and desire to win this race by hook or crook. If they have to compromise the basic ethics of Journalism in this process also, then they are not hesitating in doing so. The role of media is to inform the people about the truth, and let people decide what they want to do. But what if Media make their mind before and assessment has already been done in their office influenced by big politicians, and then the partial truth will be served in front of you for/against some political party. How people make up their mind or how it gets influenced?? If Media will highlight some issue which is partially correct to malign someone then automatically your mind will also utter the same words as their reporter is dictating the news. When you will hit your brain with same monotonous news for numerous amount of time, then your mind will think the same and in this way your mind will be hijacked. The hijacking of mind is done in such a beautiful way that neither you realize about this nor you have any option to think apart from this. In former times politicians made policy and the media reported on it. Today media makes policy and the politicians put it into execution. This is the effect of media and if they went against something, then no one can save that entity. If Media is so much important and decisive then why are we allowing this hijacking of media?? Why Media set up their mind well in advance before setting any trend of news or debate?? “Whoever controls the media, controls the mind” ― Jim Morrison When People thought that their mind is being controlled or hijacked then they started their own media, their own way of expressing their thoughts, their own way of approach, And this revolution introduces us into the world of social Media. Every Indian has been given right through this social media that he can trend something, he can express his views freely without the pressure of editor or the owner of media channels. They are free to pen down anything which they feel that it is apt. Recently we have seen that the outrage in social media has resulted into the concrete steps taken by the Govt. Either it is Damini case or any political or social issues Social media is playing an important rule to mend the Govt in their own way. Social media is the power of youth and even now many political parties are understanding that this has became the heart of India. They set trends and spread them, they influence our way of thinking in an enormous way and they have a long arm in political issues too. Many news or cases that had not been given any space in print media or TV media, that news or case has became viral in social media and a clear message was sent to the media corridors that if you will fail to do honest journalism, then we will do it ourselves. In future, a time will come when we will govern the state through social media, See the recent example atrocities of policemen were posted in Social media and then the action was taken against them and policemen was suspended. If Main stream media will hide the truth then social media will act and serve the truth with concrete proof. We are now in the midst of the information revolution. Due to continuing developments in media technology, we are flooded by a huge volume of non-stop information. Most of this information comes to us without a filter or censor. The information can be positive and negative. It is important for all, and particularly teenagers, to be able to look critically at the information and the sources and make positive choices. Having a critical attitude means that we can distinguish between positive and negative information and make choices that will give us information that will benefit us and our society. Let me finish this article with this beautiful quote by Brain Solis :- “Social media spark a revelation that we, the people, have a voice, and through the democratization of content and ideas we can once again unite around common passions, inspire movements, and ignite change.”
