Just because you get a vaccine reminder in the mail does not mean - TopicsExpress

Just because you get a vaccine reminder in the mail does not mean that your pet needs all the vaccines listed. In fact excess vaccines may make chronic medical problems or autoimmune problems worse. Young animals need a series of vaccines to be protected from parvo, distemper, lepto, bordetella, feline leukemia, feline respiratory diseases, and rabies. Boosters at one year old and 4 years of age may be sufficient for animals never exposed to other animals. Pets that frequent groomers, are boarded, visit dog parks, or day care may need bordetella more frequently than "home bodies" Research shows that vaccine titers or the duration of the protection of the vaccine can last several years. Over vaccination may lead to autoimmune issues and other medical issues and the immune system is over stimulated. Older animals, especially those with issues, may not need vaccines at all! Make sure and remind your vet of medical problems, your and your pets age and activities before they are vaccinated
