Just by looking at him, youd assume he was just an average 3 year old who is simply sleeping at bedtime. You wouldnt know that hes been fighting high blood sugar all day despite the many boluses. You wouldnt know that hes had his fingers poked 8 times so far today. You couldnt imagine that I was about to accidentally wake him up and cause him to cry while doing his site change. You wouldnt understand why we sometimes refer to his insulin pump as life support or why we consider his CGM a necessity. But while you see that picture of him asleep, about to be awoken by a needle, just know that behind all of the equipment and numbers and diagnoses, this is a brave little boy who desperately deserves a cure.
