Just called Florida Power & Light (FPL) to see why there is a Convenience Fee for using a credit card to pay monthly bills with. According to the representative FPL uses a third party or middleman that takes your payment from one of your credit cards then pays FPL with their medium of exchange and this is where the $3.45 fee comes in. With no competition in the energy market, FPL can do this kind of thing until the end of time if they want. The only other business that does this is the Tax Collectors Office where you pay for your auto tags; they also charge a percentage if you want to use a credit card to pay for your registration renewal. Its all about control and we are being controlled.
