Just finished a fun painting called The Vicar Heads Home, a portrait of a sort of a ring-necked pheasant who frequented the vegetable garden for a couple of summers. He was full of personality, and had a thing for basil and lettuce! He would while away hours digging in the straw pathways, sampling the veg, and drinking out of the low bird bath while I worked in the garden. Later in the day after a nap in the shade of the asparagus bed, the Vicar would trudge to the end of the garden and fly off to a safe spot elsewhere on the island, away from the coyotes. He died of natural causes two summers ago, and we found him near his favorite spot in the asparagus. Not a bad way to go, all in all!
